Jamie Mason-Harper
Jamie Harper is a mixed media artist who specialises in live portraiture.
He uses a sketch approach to find the balance between expressionism and realism, creating images which are energetic and calm at the same time.
With this project it was Jamie's first foray into 3D digital work a format he is exploring and incorporating into his current art workflow.
Vault Artist Studios is his creative home, here he resides in the old animal room where he spends his time painting faces, listening to techno and watching classic action films.

The Art of VR Music.
This is a virtual rendition of the Vault Artist Studios in East Belfast, a creative hub of fantastic artists, and in particular, the theatre space there.
Here, you can see paintings of 4 wonderful and creative people from Northern Ireland who volunteered their time over Covid19 lockdown in June 2020 to engage in this project, submitting photographs and a recorded interview, agreeing to take part in this audio-visual experiment.
On top of this you can hear the music of the Wired Ensemble. A dedicated group of Musicians from the Drake Music Northern Ireland studio who have produced the most amazing tunes in their time, some of them for this event.
This virtual tour experience came from an idea to create an augmented gallery experience, where works of art could be added to in the virtual world and augmented with interviews and audio interaction with virtual musical instruments.
I had a pretty good idea how to do this at the start, it all seemed so straight forward. I would take two sets of virtual reality worlds, one containing audio clips and interactive sound sculptures and one with 3D art and sculptures that would overlay the audio. I would create an interactive musical experience and then invite some musicians from the Wired Ensemble who would perform the piece for an audience. Little was I to know in January 2020 that the world was going to be a more complicated place.
Covid 19 arrived, and with it the restrictions in movement and interactions that forced my hand. No longer could an audience come to the Vault Studio and don a Virtual Reality headset and see an augmented gallery, walk up to a picture and listen to recordings of the artists talk about themselves or their work, or play a virtual playground of instruments with music the volunteer subjects had chosen.
I applied to Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education to partake in an Innovate Us programme to upskill my knowledge of Unity Game Development Software which can create the virtual world and interactions.
A new direction was forged and though we could not create a live performance in 2020 because of risk to vulnerable project participants, this Virtual experience on the web was created.
This virtual tour accessible from your screen at home will hold place until early 2021, where the hard work of all participants will pay off and true scale interactive installation in the Vault Artist Studios will...
